14-YEAR-OLD ‘GUITAR HERO PHENOM’ BREAKS THREE WORLD RECORDS
Torrance, Calif – June 2009 – Danny Johnson, the proclaimed ‘Guitar Hero Phenom’, crushed three Guitar Hero Guinness World Records™ at the Book Expo America on May 30th. Johnson used dreamGEAR’s innovative WarBeast wireless guitar controller to help him break the record for the Highest Score on Guitar Hero: Metallica with a score of 1,009,056.
The 14-year-old gaming enthusiast is partnered exclusively with dreamGEAR and uses only the B.C. Rich WarBeast for Guitar Hero on PLAYSTATION®3. “Using the WarBeast wireless controller for Guitar Hero makes me feel as if I’m actually playing a guitar,” explains Johnson. “The full-size of the guitar gives me a much more comfortable and natural feel than other controllers. The WarBeast is the best guitar controller I’ve used and it helps me break these records!”
The WarBeast, named a CES 2009 Innovations Design and Engineering Awards Honoree, is a licensed life-size guitar controller replica of the iconic heavy metal guitar manufacturer B.C. Rich WarBeast. Featuring an enhanced strum bar, responsive whammy bar and Star Power button, this ground-breaking wireless controller brings gamers to the front of the stage, bridging the gap between professional guitars and gaming equipment. Gamers who do not know how to play the guitar come closer than ever with the WarBeast controller while they rock out like B.C. Rich guitar-wielding artists such as Guns N’ Roses founding member Tracii Guns, Kerry King of Slayer, Motorhead’s Phil Campbell and John Konesky of Tenacious D.
“Danny is an incredible gamer and we are thrilled that he has selected the WarBeast as his controller of choice,” says Richard Weston, dreamGEAR COO. “We are excited that the WarBeast has contributed to his being one of the most extraordinary Guitar Hero players in the world. dreamGEAR strives to make the best and easiest-to-use gaming controllers and will continue to bring innovative products to the market.”
Johnson also broke the record for Longest Note Streak on Guitar Hero with a score of 3,722 (100%) and Highest Score for a Single Track, a record that he set previously, on Guitar Hero III with a score of 985,206 at Book Expo America. Both records were broken while playing the “Through the Fire and the Flames” track on XBOX 360.
Games like Guitar Hero came naturally to the Grapevine, Texas-native, due to his background in and love of music. A skilled pianist, drummer, guitarist, saxophone and oboe player, Johnson also writes his own music that he features on his website, www.GuitarHeroPhenom.com.
