The $30 setup ships August 15th, and is available now for pre-order. Until then, you’re going to have to manage the old fashioned way: making a younger sibling hold up the sensor while you play Dance Central.

Let’s face it: Dragging a bunch of power cords around can be a nuisance.

They can get tangled and it’s easy to forget what goes with what. The makers of the Portable Power Max tout their device as one for the road —” a compact device with five USB ports and a USB splitter that allow you to charge up to six USB gadgets, including phones, cameras and MP3 players. Better yet, it can charge all the gadgets at the same time. Charging times will vary depending on the device being charged and how many are plugged in at once. An iPhone 4, for example, can be fully charged in about two hours. If you want to charge five at the same time, it could take three hours. Charging the Portable Power Max battery from i.Sound takes seven to nine hours. The Portable Power Max, which also includes a built-in flashlight, an AC adapter and a mini/micro USB cable, costs $129.99.

The 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas was filled with innovation, excitement, and optimism. Preliminary figures show attendance numbers at roughly 140,000, with 30,000 attendees coming from outside the United States, a CES record. New tablets were introduced, appliances became smarter, wireless technology flourished, and Ford even unveiled its first electric car.

We sent a team of brave reporters and bloggers to cover the event on a daily basis. Their blogs and videos (available at our YouTube channel “iPhonelifemagazine”) highlighted the best of the show relating to iOS products. As expected, power devices were heavily represented, with iSound’s Portable Power destroying the competition with a 480-hour power supply. Other highlights included the wireless flash drive AirStash, the MiLi Pocket Projector, various futuristic-shaped audio docks, and Magic Cube, a projection keyboard that tracks your finger movements.

Our sincere thanks go out to our reporters and bloggers who tirelessly filled our blog pages with fun, wacky, and interesting events and products on a daily basis. Here for your enjoyment and pleasure, are our favorite products from this year’s show.
Staying fully charged at CES

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is the ultimate proving ground for cell phone technology. Over 100,000 visitors are vying for a limited supply of network connectivity, and the constant searching for a signal by your cell phone can drain battery power quickly. Fortunately, a number of solutions to this dilemma were on display at CES.

The iSound Portable Power Max ($140, iSound.net) and iSound Portable Power ($90, iSound.net) deliver 16,000mAh and 8,000mAh respectively. In addition, they have 5 USB ports and even a built-in LED flashlight. You can use all of that power to repeatedly recharge your iOS device or charge five USB-powered devices at the same time. (Todd Bernhard)

An increasing number of iPad cases are transforming Apple’s cutting-edge touchscreen media tablet back into something more like a traditional laptop or netbook by adding a physical keyboard.

This might seem a heresy, reducing the sleek modern device back to the days of shoulder pads and the briefcase.

But the benefits are obvious for the heavy tablet user. Typing on a physical keyboard (connected via Bluetooth) is a lot faster and more comfortable than tapping away on the virtual screen keyboard.

When you don’t need the speed and ergonomic benefits of the real keyboard it’s simple to use the iPad in its normal manner, either in the keyboard case or out on its own as nature intended.

Apple’s £56 iPad Keyboard Dock offers the user a more comfortable typing experience than if he or she used the screen keyboard but it demands a separate carrying case or bag. It also works in portrait mode only, when most of us prefer the standard landscape laptop orientation.

iPad keyboard cases – such as Sena’s Keyboard Folio – integrate a soft silicon Bluetooth keyboard, which is lightweight and pretty resistant to knocks and other physical dangers.

iSound looked at all the available Bluetooth keyboards but wasn’t happy with any of them. It decided that there was no better keyboard for the iPad than Apple’s own £57 Apple Wireless Keyboard.

Apple’s keyboard is certainly a better keyboard than the one in the Keyboard Folio but you still have to store and carry that around in a separate case, as it’s not integrated.

iSound’s solution is simple – build a case that carries and protects both the Apple iPad and the Apple Wireless Keyboard, and offers the best iPad stand options.

The iSound Keyboard Portfolio offers a stand-up landscape Display View that is the most comfortable and ergonomic for typing using the Apple keyboard, created by swinging the outer flap into a crease at the top of the case. (The crease is also a pretty good case handle when carrying it around.)

There’s also a Type View, which is great for more laid back touchscreen use with a nice, firm feel to it.

The iPad will also stand in portrait orientation within this case, although rather awkwardly.

As an iPad case the iSound Keyboard Portfolio is made of genuine leather, hard-backed for extra protection. Its suede interior offers softer protection for the iPad inside.

There’s a pocket for the Apple Wireless Keyboard, and another for your cables.

iSound claims that its Velcro fasteners help avoid wireless signal interference that are a risk with magnetic case closures.

The Sena Keyboard Folio’s leather is softer and more luxurious than that of the grainier iSound Keyboard Portfolio but the latter is just as business smart in its looks.

The Keyboard Portfolio is about 4cm taller than the Sena and most other iPad cases so that it can carry the larger Apple Wireless Keyboard.

It’s a trade-off – to use the best available Bluetooth keyboard the case needs to be larger than the average iPad case. The cable pocket – for a recharging cord or the Apple Camera Connection Kit, for example – is especially handy, and ignored in most other cases.

The Apple Wireless Keyboard is also bulkier, although not hugely noticeably heavier than the third-party silicon Bluetooth keyboards favoured by other keyboard-case manufacturers.

Another advantage of using the Apple keyboard is that you can also use it with your desktop-bound Mac when not travelling with only your iPad.

The iSound Keyboard Portfolio iPad case is available in black, brown and red.

From i.Sound comes Power Max 8000. iSound says this is the only back up power supply you will ever again need while on the road. One thing’s for sure, with its compact design and 8000 mAH battery, you’ll certainly be able to keep up the charge on multiple devices. Unlike other battery/charging device, this one offers 5 USB ports. This allows you to charge and power almost all your small USB powered devices. (iPods, cell phones, PDA’s, etc.) It won’t charge the iPad (*Please note that the Portable Power and the Portable Power Max are both capable of fully charging the iPad.) or a laptop, both of which require even more charging power! The included USB to mini and micro USB cable means you don’t have to carry around cables for each device. An LED indicator with four lights lets you know how much power is remaining from 25% to 100%. And there’s yet one more thing! A flashlight’s built in to help you in the dark. The one drawback of this device is that the 100 / 240V AC / DC adapter is not built-in, but it is included. My guess it would have made the unit way bigger and heavier! However, with the large capacity of the battery, you won’t be carrying the AC charger around much. On short trips, you can just charge the Power Max 8000 before you home and forget about bring the adapter.. MSRP $79.99. But do a web search for discounts. iSound also offers a 16,000 mAH version with MSRP of $129.99. Again, discount should be available.

What can I say? I don’t think I’d ever use Sesame Street iDevice gear, but I can imagine quite a few adults who will use this because it’s cute and it reminds them of their childhood.

There are a number of cases and covers available in the collection. There’s also some travel headphones, which are quite colorful. Kids will probably love them. The cases include plush cases and skins for your iPods and iPhones. The case for the iPad is rubberized so that should help protect it.

I’ve seen a lot of kids use Apple devices. The touch-based and motion-based games are definitely an easy way to keep your young kids occupied. At least this way, maybe your iGadgets will be protected from their little kid exploits. Check out dreamGEAR for more details.

It’s nice to know that Sesame Street always has kids best interest at heart. The new line of headphones is a great example of that. It looks out for their hearing by limiting volume, and gives them a long cable so they don’t have to sit too close to the TV. The line of cases for iPhone, iPad, and TPU shows consideration for you by using sturdy materials like rubberized hard plastic, and silicone. Here are some more details:

“Elmo and Cookie Monster Sculpted Headphones and Travel Headphones – The sculpted headphones ($24.99) feature a large over the ear design for passive noise cancelling, and a beautiful 3D sculpt of Elmo or Cookie Monster, making them fun and easy for children to use. The 85dB sound-limiting feature reduces worry about harming children’s hearing by restricting the volume, and the long cable allows children to sit farther away from the screen when used with large televisions. The travel headphones, with an image of Elmo or Cookie Monster, are smaller, lighter and fold flat for convenience. ($19.99)

A consistent theme at CES has been battery life, or the lack thereof. iPhone Life has covered a number of gadgets and cases that can double or even triple the battery life of an iOS device thanks to a 2,000mAh battery. So imagine the technolust when we saw a device with eight times that capacity! They promise 480 hours for five devices!

The dreamGEAR Portable Power Max ($140) and Portable Power ($90) deliver 16,000mAh and 8,000mAh respectively. In addition, they have 5 USB ports and even a built-in LED flashlight! You can use all of that power to repeatedly recharge your iOS device or charge a gadget bag full of USB powered devices, five at-a-time.

The basic model is about the size of the new Apple TV and the Max model looks like a thick iPhone 4. There’s an external AC brick as well, but the power-to-size ratio is terrific. Right now, this info is based on our brief hands-on at CES. We will have to do an in-depth review to measure real-world battery life and just how long it takes to recharge the device itself.

If the Portable Power Max is as good as advertised, imagine the lengths you can go to without worrying about power. I hear Mt. Everest has WiFi now!

The dreamGEAR booth at CES 2011 was one of those unexpected, pleasant surprises hidden among heavy hitters like Samsung, Blackberry, Canon, Intel, etc. The company truly boasted a product that no matter what kind of devices you own, you’d be silly not to add to your collection: meet the iSound Portable Power Max.

This power source gives 16,000 mAH of battery power and is equipped with five USB ports. It will juice your cameras, iPhones, iPods, iPads, Android, Blackberry and other USB devices simultaneously. This concept is handy considering we’re using more devices these days all at once.

What’s most impressive about this USB backup battery is that it doesn’t operate like an ordinary outlet or charger. Its 16,000 milliamps mean that it doesn’t require constant recharging, which is often needed for data hungry, power-draining devices. The Portable Power Max is meant to give you 30 additional hours of power usage for the iPad, or three days of steady use. Your smartphone can also be boosted 11 to 16 times over.

Other noteworthy features of the black and silver charger include an LED light that prompts you on the charging status and an AC/DC power adapter. The charger is also designed with a built-in flashlight at one end. We’re not quite sure to what capacity this feature comes into play other than charging devices in the dark. A USB cable with mini and micro connectors also supplements iSound’s Portable Power Max. It retails for $130, and you may be able to find it at a cheaper price on Amazon.

The dreamGEAR iSound charger could prove to be vital in helping you stay connected traveling on the road or across the country. It appears to be so effective, that in all of its portable glory, you could leave it at home while traveling and still have enough power when you return. Think you’ll give it a try? What kind of battery power does your charger currently give you?

Below, see the charger from all angles. We have an interview with Oren from dreamGEAR talking all about the features of the Portable Power Max as well as what the smaller version of the device can do.

DreamGear charger and cases

DreamGear showed off the i.Sound Portable Power Max, an external backup power supply with a whopping 16,000 mAh battery. Besides the huge capacity, the $140 charger has five USB ports to let you charge multiple iPods, iPhones, iPads, digital cameras, and other USB-powered devices at the same time. The built-in flashlight may be a bit of a gimmick, but I was pleasantly surprised by its light weight and attractive design. (There’s also an 8000 mAh version for $90.)

But the products from DreamGear that will be the biggest hit in my house are the officially licensed Sesame Street cases for iPads, iPhones, and iPod touches. The company offers cases for the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4, as well as the second- and third-generation iPod Touch, for $15 a piece with either Elmo or Cookie Monster designs (or, for $25, you can grab a twin pack with one of each), and the iPad cases go for $25. Best of all, the cases are made of food-grade, dishwasher-safe silicone, which means you don’t have to worry when your kids (like my 19-month-old twins) decide that iOS devices make great teething toys.

If the University of Alabama wins the championship, the car will be crimson along with the championship logo in the Aaron’s 499 race at Talladega Superspeedway Apr. 25.

Michael Waltrip is likely to be in a few truck races for Billy Ballew Motorsports in 2010.

However, EA Sports has recently announced that they are sticking with Tiger Woods.

dreamGEAR has announced a licensing partnership with NASCAR. dreamGEAR is producing gaming accessories for racing video game titles.

Nintendo didn’t make the Wii Activ3 Workout Kit but they should have. This package comes with a leg holster with a nunchuck slot, a set of handles, three resistance tubes (light, medium, heavy) and a carrying bag.

This would work great with a variety of games including My Fitness Coach, Gold’s Gym Workout and my personal favorite, EA Sports Active.

If you are thinking of buying the EA Sports Active Multiplayer Pack I would recommend that you consider this workout kit instead because of the tubing

Many times, I’ve played the fitness games and wished that I could adjust the resistance because it’s gotten a lot easier for certain exercises but I still need lighter resistance for others (due to a shoulder injury). Since there are three interchangeable tubes in this kit, it gives gamers more options (and it’s great if more than one person in your home is using the game).

Prices vary but this kit is generally under $30. It’s a small price considering how much it would cost to get a membership at the gym!<!--[if gte mso 10]>

Fourteen-year old Texas-native Danny Johnson was recently declared the Guitar Hero Guinness World Records holder for “Highest Score for a Single Song” after he hit 99% of the notes for the DragonForce song “Through the Fire and Flames” on expert level for a score of 973,954 points.

The young gaming prodigy is a musician outside the game as well, playing piano, drums, guitar, saxophone, and oboe. Teen Vogue got a chance to ask the mastermind himself some questions on his success. So check out his answers (and GH tips!) here.

When did you first play Guitar Hero?
I first started playing about a year and a half ago, at my friend’s house.

How many hours do you log in a day?
Not much, probably 1 hour a day.

Being a skilled pianist, drummer, guitarist, saxophone and oboe player, do you think knowledge of instruments have helped you become the new GH3 record holder?
Yes, I think playing the drums helps me keep the beat of the song and playing the piano helps with finger dexterity. Plus, now I’m playing GH3 exclusively with dreamGEAR’s WarBeast, which is a full size B.C. Rich replica guitar controller. It feels like I’m using a real guitar when I play and it’s really cool to combine the two.

Rumor has it you’ve destroyed 80 plastic Guitar Hero controllers in the last nine months. Would you say you’re a very intense, competitive player or more relaxed?
Well I wouldn’t go as far to say they were “destroyed”. It’s just when you hit the buttons over and over again they tend to stick down and not register hits every once in a while. So I break them, yes, but I don’t rip them to shreds! I’m definitely a competitive player though, but a very relaxed person in general.

Do you memorize the songs as if you were to memorize sheet music say on the piano?
After playing a song so many times, yes it becomes part of my memory.

Do you feel like life has changed after winning the Guitar Hero Guinness World Record for “Highest Score for a Single Song”?
Yes in recognition, but my daily routine has not changed.

We hear the roughly seven-minute rendition of DragonForce’s “Through the Fire and Flames” that you conquered on expert (hitting 99% of the 3,722 notes, and accumulating 973,954 points) isn’t your favorite song–what song is and why?
I’d probably say that “Soothsayer” by Buckethead is probably my favorite song, because it’s an awesome song and it’s by an awesome guitarist.

Do you have any tips you can offer to Guitar Hero fans?
Whenever you’re playing a song and you don’t know what notes are coming at you, don’t hit random buttons! Only hit the notes you know you can hit and you will eventually get better. Also, try to take off your face-plate if you have one, I think it helps.

Now that you’ve conquered GH3’s most difficult song, what’s next? Will we have to wait for Guitar Hero IV?
Well I just FC’ed (100% no mistakes) every single song in the newest Guitar Hero game Guitar Hero Metallica. It took 2 days. So I guess we will have to wait until the next Guitar Hero.

Congratulations Danny!

–Kate Branch

In what can only be described as a wreckless attempt to disrupt the peace, dreamGEAR has developed products specifically to encourage street fighting and general brawling among all Wii and PS3 owners.

That’s right, dreamGEAR is acting as an “Enabler” to such anti-social behavior by introducing not one, but three different arcade fighter controllers.

Their heavy-hitter is the Arcade Fighter stick, which features full-sized arcade components on a large controller suitable for placement on a table or in the gamer’s lap… as he/she bashes their foe with wreckless abandon.

Their Arcade Fighter Micro features a similar arcade-inspired layout, but with smaller components and a smaller overall footprint. I can only assume these smaller units are intended to be more easily smuggled past security.

Finally, the retro-ist, “old school” Arcade Fighter Classic Pads appeal to “classically trained” Console Fighter Ninjas out there, as they are available for Wii or PS3, but resemble the gamepads of yesteryear’s consoles, bearing striking similarities to the SNES and Genesis controllers.

Additionally, dreamGEAR is further raising tension, undoubtedly, by segregating by color. All of the Wii controllers are white, while all of the PS3 controllers are black. (Seperate – but – equal, indeed!) I guess we all know what they are trying to say by that…

And, if that’s not enough, while the industry recognizes that the “big three” consoles include not only the Wii and the PS3, but Microsoft’s Xbox 360, as well… dreamGEAR isn’t making any arcade controllers for this system, at all. One can only assume this is an attempt to cause further distrust between the different consoles’ camps and, possibly, in the hopes of inciting riots.

TORRANCE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–dreamGEAR®, an industry-leader in video game accessories, announced a new exclusive partnership with Danny Johnson, the Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock Guinness World Records™ holder for the “Highest Score for a Single Song.” The 14-year old prodigy has proclaimed dreamGEAR’s innovative WarBeast PS3 guitar controller to be his exclusive gaming accessory of choice.

“When I use the WarBeast controller while playing Guitar Hero, it really seems like I am using an actual guitar,” explains Johnson. “The full-size feels so much more comfortable than small guitar controllers do, and the real life design makes me feel like I am a true rock star performing on a major stage. This is definitely the coolest guitar controller that I’ve used, especially with the skull fret inlays and extra features that smaller guitar controllers don’t typically have. The game is a lot more fun to play with the WarBeast!”

The WarBeast, named a CES 2009 Innovations Design and Engineering Awards Honoree, is a licensed life-size guitar controller replica of the iconic heavy metal guitar manufacturer B.C. Rich WarBeast. Featuring an enhanced strum bar, responsive whammy bar and Star Power button, this ground-breaking wireless controller brings gamers to the front of the stage, bridging the gap between professional guitars and gaming equipment. Gamers who do not know how to play the guitar come closer than ever with the WarBeast controller while they rock out like B.C. Rich guitar-wielding artists such as Guns N’ Roses founding member Tracii Guns, Kerry King of Slayer, Motorhead’s Phil Campbell and John Konesky of Tenacious D.

Johnson earned the Guinness World Records™ title by hitting 99 percent of the notes for the DragonForce song “Through the Fire and Flames” on Expert level for a score of 973,954 points, breaking the previous record of 899,703 points and securing his place as the current Guinness World Records™ holder.

“Teaming up with Danny, the skilled ‘Guitar Hero Phenom,’ is a natural partnership for dreamGEAR and our WarBeast guitar controller,” says Richard Weston, dreamGEAR COO. “We are proud to produce a gaming accessory favored by such an extraordinary gamer and we look forward to Danny’s feedback on how we can continue to develop gaming accessories that not only meet, but surpass the needs of gamers.”

Games like Guitar Hero came naturally to the Grapevine, Texas-native, due to his background in and love of music.

Red and Blue Glow Sabers from dreamGEAR\ Slash Away Enemies in All WiiTM Sword Fighting Games.

Torrance, CA (PRWEB) October 6, 2008 – dreamGEAR, a leading producer of video game accessories, has unveiled their latest must-have accessory for the Nintendo WiiTM: the Dual Glow Sabers. These game-enhancing extensions attach to the Wii remote, providing the ultimate in interactive game play for titles such as the recently released Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, No More Heroes, the much anticipated Star Wars Clone Wars “Light Saber Duals” (coming this December) and all other sword fighting games made for the gaming console.

True fans of Star Wars finally have the opportunity to wield a light saber while engaged in digital combat, and the Glow Sabers’ compatibility with all Wii sword fighting games make it an essential addition to any Wii gamer’s collection. The opposing red and blue LEDs within the Glow Sabers symbolize good and evil, allowing users to choose which side they want to fight for.

“dreamGEAR is always striving to produce exciting and unique products to help our customers achieve a more realistic gaming experience,” states dreamGEAR COO Richard Weston. “The Dual Glow Sabers put the player right in the game, allowing them to fight alongside their favorite Star Wars characters.”

A standard Wii remote is housed in the Glow Sabers’ custom chrome cradle, allowing full access to all controller buttons, and the ultra-bright red and blue LEDs provide enhanced illumination in action adventure and fighting games. While offering unmatched game play, the Dual Glow Sabers also provide durability. The interchangeable sabers are made of a sturdy, yet lightweight plastic, making them less susceptible to breaking.

The Dual Glow Sabers package ($24.99) includes two Wii Remote cradles, one red and one blue LED Glow Saber. For more information, visit www.dreamGEAR.net.

The Dual Glow Sabers, said dreamGEAR, are actually a custom chrome cradle housing a standard Wii remote. They make use of red and blue LEDs to “symbolize good and evil, allowing users to choose which side they want to fight for.”

The sabers will reportedly be compatible with titles such as the recently released Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, No More Heroes, Star Wars Clone Wars “Light Saber Duals” (coming this December) and all other sword fighting games made for the Wii gaming console.

Since the days of the original NES, Nintendo has been synonymous with Mario and, let’s face it, Duck Hunt. The NES Light Gun was an insanely gutsy and fun peripheral, yet it didn’t really make a resurgence until the Wii Zapper became its heir apparent, even though the Zapper is just a hunk of well-formed plastic. With the Nintendo Wii’s popularity, particularly during the 2007 holiday season, companies are hopping on the Wii bandwagon faster than you can say “blow in the cartridge.” But dreamGEAR, which has announced a series of Wii peripherals here at CES, may have the one peripheral that outdoes Nintendo: the GameBlaster.

The GameBlaster is taking the Wii Zapper head on, both in terms of its function and form. Like the Zapper, dreamGEAR’s GameBlaster incorporates the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to give players more control over the on-screen action than the old-school Light Gun ever provided. Also like the Zapper, the GameBlaster is a chunk of molded plastic. But this is also where the GameBlaster, which is designed to be equally comfortable for both right- and left-handed players, starts to set itself apart.

Rather than a static piece of plastic like the Zapper, the GameBlaster has a rotating barrel and break-away functionality for tricky in-game maneuvers. The rotating barrel at first seems odd, but when you think about the amount of hand and arm movement involved with blasting enemies, the rotation promotes more natural arm and hand movement without interrupting the gameplay itself. You also may not think the break-away function is all that important, but by touching a single button, players can pull the gun into two pieces and easily transition from, say, a shooting mechanic to a throwing one. Considering the diversity of actions being thrown at Wii gamers right now, this functionality has the potential to be quite useful, particularly looking down the line at holiday 2008 Wii games.

dreamGEAR is using CES to unveil a couple of other Wii peripherals as well, the Wii Charging Station and the Soft Sports Kit. The Charging Station is self-explanatory, as it lets players charge two Remotes even when the Wii is powered off. An LED Charge indicator lets users know when charging is completed, and the unit itself includes two rechargeable battery packs and storage slots for two Wii remotes, memory cards and cables.

A wireless gun that is compatible with all Wii shooting games and first-person shooters. Basically what they have done here is combine the Wiimote and the Nunchuck controllers into a single device. Of course it can be used by either left handed or right handed players and will kill a large variety of bad guys.

It’s kinda cool looking in a vintage Sci-Fi movie way. Looks pretty comfortable too. The price is $34.99 each. It arrives just in time for Christmas.

Another take on a lightgun bracket for the Wiimote.

November 8, 2007 – Lightgun brackets have now proliferated for the Wii in anticipation of games like Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. As we’ve mentioned several times, Nintendo’s own Zapper shell didn’t impress us at E3 due to its tommy-gun shape and squishy mechanical trigger. There are lots of third-party options however, and the most recent discovery is the Wii Game Blaster from DreamGear.

The $34.99 plastic bracket goes for the long barrel pistol look that’s more reminiscent of traditional lightguns than the various other options we’ve seen before. From the looks of the picture both of the Nunchuck’s buttons are directly accessable, while a mechanical trigger towards the front of the ‘barrel’ looks to make a connection with the Wiimote’s trigger.

It would also appear that the Wii Game Blaster was designed with gameplay elements in mind, as the barrel can apparently rotate and the Nunchuck completely detach for certain moments in games. This could be our favorite lightgun bracket yet.

At E3 this year, I had a chance to play with the official Nintendo Wii light gun. It was cool, but a little cheaply made for my tastes. Not too long ago dreamGEAR launched a soft sport set for the Nintendo Wii and today they are back with another Wii product in time for holiday giving.

The dreamGEAR Wii Game Blaster is a gun-like holder for your Wii remote that is compatible with any FPS or shooting game on the Wii system. The Wii Game Blaster combines the Wii Remote and Nunchuck into one easy to wield gun.

The Game Blaster uses an ambidextrous design so all gamers can use it and the Blaster comes apart with one button press to allow gamers to go from shooting to throwing. “The GameBlaster is the most superior light gun on the market,” said Richard Weston, dreamGEAR co-founder. “It is the complete package for first-person shooter and shooting titles, and dreamGEAR is proud to once again bring a best-of-class product to market. GameBlaster makes game play more exciting than ever before, once again proving that our customers’ gaming experience is always at the front of our minds.” The Wii Game Blaster is available now for $34.99.

dreamGEAR introduced a new line of Wii Sports accessories for the holiday season called the Soft Sports Kit. Any parent with more than one kid in the house knows that eventually, someone is going to get whacked with anything remotely club like.

Typical Wii sports accessories are made from hard plastic and could damage other people and belongings in the home. The Soft sports Set is made from a soft foam material that won’t cause harm. The kit includes a tennis racket, bat, golf club, a fan for cooling the Wii, and a Wii remote jacket.

“The authentic shape and feel of the racket, bat and golf club, combined with the soft foam, brings an unparalleled level of realism and safety to virtual sports,” says dreamGEAR co-founder Richard Weston. “We wanted to help gamers more clearly envision themselves within the context of the game, while simultaneously offering an alternative to hard plastic Wii remote extensions that might injure other players or damage property. The Soft Sports Kit accomplishes both goals.” The kit is perfectly priced for a stocking stuffer at only $34.99.

How Well Does the Wii Remote Charger Work?

Now as all Nintendo Wii fans know the biggest gripe we have with our systems are not really with the systems at all, but with the dang controller!

A raise of hands now… “Who here is sick and tired of spending money on buying batteries for their wii motes?”

Ah yes… I see a crowd of virtual hands rising. Ah yes, I feel your pain.

However there is something available on the market right now, promising all of us freedom from batteries! This cannot be true! You’re saying that I don’t have to buy batteries anymore!?

That’s correct! The Dream Gear Charge ‘n Play Charging Cradle for the Wii Remote is the name, free from buying batteries is its game.

I bought mine for a decent price of $25 at Circuit City thinking I had hit the gold mine, not to mention I got the last one in the store, which sort of made me mad. I wanted at least 2 of them so I could charge 2 remotes. This product only allows the charge of one remote. Grrr! I went ahead and bought it anyway though. I knew if I didn’t I’d be waiting forever to see the Dream Gear Charge ‘n Play Charging Cradle hit the shelves again.

What Does It Come With?

The Dream Gear Charge ‘n Play Charging Cradle comes with pretty basic easy to use things. Honestly you don’t even need to read the manual to understand how it works.

You have your charging stand, or cradle where the Wii mote stand as it charges. You have your battery pack that simply clips right into the Wii remotes battery compartment in the back, you have a USB connector, and it plugs directly into the Wii, and will charge as you play. Then you have your power wall plug adapter. If you don’t want to use the USB you can use the wall plug.

I know of other Wii mote charging systems that does not give you the wall outlet plug option, so I was glad that this one included it.

If your kids want to get in on a little Guitar Hero action without you having to drop big money on a game console, dreamGEAR has your fix. The dreamGear Shredmaster JR is a game controller that is designed to look like a real guitar, but is made of lightweight materials so kids can use it for long periods without it getting too heavy.

The Shredmaster JR includes AV cables and connects directly to any TV that has AV inputs. The game runs from the guitar and features 10 licensed songs to allow your kids to shred away.

The song list includes some well known rock classics including Smoke on the Water, I Love Rock and Roll, Iron Man, You Give Love a Bad Name, Billion Dollar Babies, Hotel California, Paradise City, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Paranoid, and Master of Puppets. The game also allows kids to make up their own music. The best news is that the Shredmaster JR is only $49.99.

Here is a cool little piece of budget gaming tech. These LavaGlow controllers actually retail for less than regular PS3 controllers. What makes them even better is the fact that they glow. If you like playing games at night with the lights out, you won’t have to go hunting for your controls. I have no idea how well these things handle, but if cheap PS2 controllers are anything to go by, you will probably be sacrificing a little bit of smoothness. That is OK in most games and perfectly acceptable for the controller that your buddy or your little brother gets to use.

They take 3 AAAs, come in red or blue and cost $34.99

Are they particularly better than standard controllers? Well, they’re cheaper and they glow, so that’s two pluses right there. They take 3 AAA batteries and a copy of Freedom Rock. Available wherever fine controllers are sold.

Designed for one- or two-player contests, VR Table Tennis is one of the few true virtual games on the market. Instead of using a video game controller, players swing actual paddles while an infrared reader translates their paddle movements onto their TV screen. Marketed for ages 5 and up, this will strike most adults as a fun but limited novelty item, while younger players will find the head-to-head play exciting. It offers a breezy arcade-style experience — but don’t look for depth or long-lasting value. A growing manufacturer in the portable-games market, DreamGear also makes a number of small consoles with as many as 85 games built into the hardware.
